Hosting
A hosting account is where a website actually runs. Agencies reuse the same servers and packages across several clients, so in schakl. hosting is a list of its own that you maintain once and that websites point at.
Where to find it
Section titled “Where to find it”Under Instellingen → Hosting (Settings → Hosting), “Gedeelde hostingaccounts waar je websites op draaien”. Hosting deliberately has no main-menu item and no panel on the client page: that page shows the client’s websites, and each website names its own hosting account.
Recording an account
Section titled “Recording an account”Nieuwe hosting (New hosting) opens a dialog with five fields:
- Naam (Name). Required, and the only field an import matches on. Pick something you recognise and do not use twice.
- Klant (Client). Optional, and that is the point: an account with no client is shared infrastructure you use across clients. Empty is a real answer here, not a missing one.
- Provider. From your own provider list (Instellingen → Providers), with ”＋ toevoegen” to create one on the spot.
- IP-adres (IP address). A free text field, wide enough for IPv6.
- Verantwoordelijke (Responsible). A reference rather than a name you type: the agency, a client, an employee or a contact person.
Below those sit your own custom fields for the hosting type, if you have defined any under Instellingen → Aangepaste velden (Settings → Custom fields).
Each row in the list shows the name, the provider, the IP address and the client, with a ⋯ menu for Bewerken (Edit) and Verwijderen (Delete). The pager sits underneath: the list never quietly shows only its first page as if it were everything.
Creating one from a website
Section titled “Creating one from a website”You do not have to come here first. In the website form, the Hosting picker’s ”＋ toevoegen” opens exactly this dialog, with all of the fields above. Save, and the new account is already selected on the website you were working on.
Import and export
Section titled “Import and export”The Export/Import bar sits beside the Nieuwe hosting button. An import matches on the
name. The columns are name (required), company, provider, ip_address and contact.
Two things behave differently here:
- An empty
companyreally does detach. On most entities an empty cell leaves the field alone, but here empty means “shared infrastructure”, so that choice is carried out. - Two accounts with the same name are an error, not a guess. Unlike a domain, a hosting account’s name is not unique in the database. If a name occurs twice, the check reports that row as ambiguous instead of picking one.

Editable per role under Instellingen → Rollen (Settings → Roles). The Hosting card in
Settings only appears for holders of hosting.hosting.read. Exporting or importing the list
additionally needs the separate bulk permission.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- Deleting a hosting account deletes no websites. The sites that pointed at it simply keep an empty hosting field, which you can see in the Websites list.
- The same goes for a provider: remove one from Instellingen → Providers and the hosting account stays, with an empty provider field.
- Hosting is a licensed module with its own sku. If the licence lapses the list becomes read-only; exporting keeps working and nothing is lost.
